The UNC Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) has a bold mission – providing faculty members the support they need to excel as teachers, scholars, mentors and leaders. A campus-wide program, the CFE supports all of UNC-Chapel Hill’s 3,600 faculty members across every discipline as they strive to achieve their ambitious career goals in teaching, research and leadership.
Recently, CFE came to Rivers Agency, a full-service North Carolina ad agency, seeking to create a website as daring as its mission: A well-designed, engaging platform to showcase CFE’s growing thought leadership. To get started, we dug into learning more about CFE’s target audience, organizational goals and content needs. An Avada WordPress theme, creatively re-touched to work within UNC’s framework, provided the foundation for this exciting project.
Rivers Agency surpassed CFE’s goals with the brand new cfe.unc.edu. The final result is a lively, informative platform that UNC faculty can easily navigate to find resources that meet their needs. Its well-organized and intuitive layout highlights at a glance CFE’s myriad offerings. Scrolling visuals and inspiring quotes capture the professional, yet dynamic, university spirit. Information is easily accessible throughout this fully responsive site.
Features that allow for a rich user experience include:

- Calendar and Professional Interests Manager integration throughout the site, with quick links to notification and registration options
- Staff directory featuring updated headshots and bios
- On-site forms allowing for easy contact with CFE staff
